Slow Fashion Forecasting & the end of the Hypercycle

As a Futurist, Educator and Designer I work across the Fashion Industry sector in areas as diverse as fashion, beauty, tech, marketing and innovation. When I started out as a full time forecaster in 2011, it was after being a design director and fashion designer for 11 years. At the time my work was about finding new trends to inform new products.

But now the scale of changes happening in the world, and what is at stake when it comes to our planet, is changing the value and need for fashion. And it is forcing us to bring to an end what I have called the ‘Hyper cycle’.

Fashion Trends are getting a bad rep but they aren’t all bad. As the climate crisis unfolds and we outspend our planetary resource budget, seasonal and “on trend” fashion collections continue to be produced, regardless of the cost, perpetuating a fashion calendar and production cycle living on borrowed time. SYNTROPIC WELLNESS

Our focus this month in the Trend Atelier Community has been “Wellness everything” as part of 2021's theme for the Trend Atelier community: "The biggest innovation is philosophical". As we were preparing for this month and trying to get the the bottom of what we truly believe Wellness is all about, syntropic farming is something that came to mind, a system created by Ernst Gotsch.
